September 11, 2026: USDA-Funded Project Weekly Update

Installation of new 8-inch main line pipe continued this week from West to East along 238th. Over 2099ft. of new pipe have been laid along 238th since the beginning of the Capital Improvement Project.

 

GPS Capture of new assets

Throughout the construction our Co-op’s Project Representatives – Nick Simmons and Morgan Berry – have been recording GPS Data for all of the materials being installed on the Co-op water system. This will be the foundation of an enduring record system for the Co-op moving forward, and will assist in everything from routine maintenance and repairs to right-of-way access determination, and accurate utility location responses to the 811 “Dig Safe Washington” resource.

Improving on our Co-op’s Historical Records

The records kept throughout the evolution of the Burton Water Company were hand-drawn illustrations on paper. Where this record has proven both accurate and valuable, it is all based on relative measurements to landmarks, some fairly enduring,  others long vanished. The entries in the Books are also based on an Alpha-numeric service allocations, requiring Co-op employees to cross-reference current addresses with legacy designations.

Updating the Co-op records from legacy sketches into highly accurate GPS Data is part of the deferred maintenance that our Board and Employees are actively addressing, and will create an enduring Water System that will serve the Burton Community well into the future.

Construction Management and Supervision

During all construction activity either Nick Simmons or Morgan Berry (part of our Operations crew) are required to be on site to observe, coordinate, and problem solve. Our engineers, Northwest Water Systems, will be on call at all times and on site as needed.

Traffic Management

Our contractor, Pape and Sons, will have flaggers at construction sites to direct traffic. Please assist by traveling slowly and following their direction. Some of our scope of work will overlap with the King County Judd Creek bridge closure, so please adjust your travel times accordingly.

Service Disruption

Every attempt will be made to minimize service disruptions. However, there is no way to do this work and have none. For planned disruptions, the Co-op will give 24 hours notice by email. Please make sure we have a current email address for whoever in your household you want to be the contact person. For unexpected disruptions, the Co-op will send an email communication as soon as practical. When possible, a Co-op representative will go to the impacted properties.
